I think RuPaul is a very interesting person to begin with. His background story really surprised me. From a young age he knew he was different from everyone. I was also really surprised when he said he got the ideas from the shows Monty Python and Bugs Bunny. I never realized that Bugs Bunny did do a lot of drag during the cartoon until I heard this interview. I also love his outlook on life. At the very end RuPaul says that it doesn't matter if people look at you funny or if they roll your eyes at you because if you are happy then that is all that matters. I think this is very inspiring for anyone, he really knows what it is like to be different and isn't afraid to show it and I think everyone needs a motto like this.
I know most people do not consider reality TV to be high culture. In discussing things of high culture it was decided that these things should teach you a lesson or make you feel inspired. And I think RuPaul and his TV show does both of these things. He encourages everyone to be themselves and is not ashamed of his true self. These are both very important lessons that everyone should follow. If you are not yourself then who are you?
This interview gave me insight to a completely different type of culture I have never really be exposed to in my life. Although I have never been exposed, I have heard and seen drag queens before and I think their levels of confidence are amazing. Drag queens are just like normal people, but they also are a little different. This interview taught/made me think about seeing things from someone else's eyes. When RuPaul says he dresses the way he does because he loves the reaction from people and then also goes on to say that as a country we elected an actor for president. This really made me think about society and how we view certain groups of people.
